I found this story whilst looking on Twitter for local events. The Peel Park rangers were asking for volunteers to come along to a tree planting taster day to help increase the biodiversity of the hedges. I emailed the Peel Park keeper and explained that I would like to go along and create a piece on the importance of maintaining animals’ habitats in Salford. I went along and spent 2 hours planting holly bushes along the banks of the River Irwell and hawthorn around the play park. Whilst I was there, I asked the Peel Park keeper some questions about the day.

Before I went along, I did some research into animal habitats and discovered that it was also Bird Nest Box Week. One of the volunteers was a member of the wildlife and woodland trust so he was the perfect interviewee to ask about the importance of having a nest box in your garden. Michael helped me with this piece by recording the interviews on his mobile phone and creating a wildtrack to accompany the piece. I edited it together on Adobe Audition and produced a voice over and cue to go alongside it. I have chosen this piece as I believe it is a well-rounded, well-edited piece that is suitable for radio.
